Stokesdale United Methodist Church Scholarship Information
If you are continuing your formal education beyond high school, Stokesdale UMC is so proud of your academic achievements. We invite you to fill out the application for the Stokesdale United Methodist Church Endowed Scholarship. The United Methodist Foundation of Western NC has received an anonymous gift that will fund a $1000 scholarship for a deserving student. If you are interested in receiving this scholarship, please complete the application and have it in the church office by Sunday, June 2, 2024.
This Stokesdale United Methodist Church Endowed Scholarship Fund is a permanently-restricted asset of the United Methodist Foundation. Every year, a portion of the fund’s earnings shall be made available to Stokesdale UMC to award scholarships. The donor’s generosity means the church can award one scholarship of $1,000 a year to an eligible student, with the possibility of renewal for up to four years. The church will continue to award scholarships annually so as many as four students could receive $1000 scholarships by 2024.
Students may apply who have been members of Stokesdale United Methodist Church, Stokesdale, NC for at least one year and are pursuing formal training or education beyond high school. The programs include:
- A certificate, technical, trade, and/or vocational program.
- An accredited 2-year degree-granting program.
- An accredited 4-year degree-granting program.
The Stokesdale UMC Endowed Scholarship Committee will consider all eligible applicants the second week of June. The criteria we will consider include financial need, church involvement, community service, and academic achievement. To be considered for the scholarship, we must receive all applications by Sunday, June 2, 2024. Each application must include a cover letter explaining the student’s faith journey, financial need, and vocational plans. The application will not be considered complete until the committee has also received a copy of the student’s most recent academic transcript, a copy of the tuition/fee bill, and a copy of the dormitory/rental lease (if applicable).
Scholarship awards shall be payable by check to each recipient’s institution of higher learning. All recipients shall maintain a 2.0 GPA during their academic career to be eligible for renewal. A student may apply for the scholarship every year for up to four years. If a student does not receive the scholarship this year, he or she may apply any following year.
