BEYOND Renovation Project Update

Stokesdale UMC is preparing for a two-phase renovation project that will improve our fellowship, hospitality, and ministry spaces while positioning our church for future growth.

We are excited to share the latest plans for the Stokesdale United Methodist Church renovation project. After consultation with our architect, contractor, and church leadership, the project has been organized into two phases that will allow us to address our most pressing facility needs while preparing for future ministry opportunities. The revised plans are reflected in the drawings currently available for review.  See the PDF below.  These plans are also available for viewing in the narthex.
Phase 1 – Construction Beginning August 2026. Phase 1 focuses on improving the spaces we use most frequently for worship, fellowship, hospitality, and ministry.
First Floor
  • Renovation of the Fellowship Hall
  • Renovation of the Kitchen
  • Renovation of the Narthex/Lobby
  • Renovation of the Men’s and Women’s Restrooms
Second Floor
  • Renovation of the Restrooms
  • Addition of a Fire Escape and Emergency Exit to improve safety and accessibility
Funding for Phase 1 comes from the generosity of our congregation through the Beyond Capital Campaign and proceeds from the sale of the Angel Cook Property. Together, these resources represent approximately $1.3 million in commitments toward the project.
Pending final approvals and permitting, we anticipate demolition and construction beginning in August 2026.
Phase 2 – Planned for the Future. Phase 2 represents the next step in preparing our facilities for future ministry and accessibility. This phase will begin when financing is in place and includes:
  • Construction of an Atrium
  • Installation of an Elevator
  • Additional Children’s Classrooms
  • Relocation of Administrative Offices to the Second Floor
While Phase 2 is shown on the drawings, it is not part of the current construction project.
Important Notice
If you have personal property, ministry supplies, furniture, decorations, equipment, or other items stored in the Fellowship Hall, Kitchen, Narthex, or any closets and storage areas marked for demolition or renovation, please remove them no later than July 31, 2026.
Items remaining after that date may be discarded, relocated, or damaged during construction. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that unclaimed items will be preserved.

If you have questions about the project, the drawings, or the construction timeline, please contact Marie Anderson at marie( (at) dws-structures (dot) com.
Thank you for your continued support, patience, and generosity as we prepare our facilities for the next chapter of ministry at Stokesdale United Methodist Church.

Stokesdale United Methodist Church has always sought to reflect God’s love at the heart of our community. As our town grows and our ministries expand, we sense God calling us to prepare for what comes next.

The BEYOND Capital Campaign is our faithful response. Together we’ll look to reimagine our fellowship hall, update our kitchen, enhance our welcoming and accessible spaces while building room for future ministries, meals and outreach to the community. Why now? Our church is growing, our community is expanding with new families, yet our gathering spaces are crowded and not fully accessible. This project is more than bricks and mortar—it’s a living sign of our mission to reflect God’s love at the heart of Stokesdale. Jesus said, “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10). That’s the spirit of this campaign—to create space where abundant life can flourish for all generations.

To go BEYOND what we thought possible, our goal is to raise $1 million in addition to the $325,000 already secured from property sales. This is both a building project and a spiritual journey. I’m asking every household to pray, listen for God’s leading, and consider a three-year commitment beyond your regular giving. On Commitment Sunday, November 23, 2025, we’ll join as one body to offer our gifts. Your response will determine how much we can do—and we can do anything with Christ as our focus.

Let’s go BEYOND—together in faith, together in love, together in Christ.
